FELLOWSHIP OF THE SWORD

DISCIPLINE | HONOUR | SKILL

Our fencing styles

The Fellowship of the Sword engages in multiple styles of fencing.

The majority of these styles are designed to allow safe engagement in swordplay without the need for purchasing expensive gear (though those obsessed among us often want to run out and buy their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd sword as soon as possible!)

All you need to attend most of the class types on offer are good shoes, a good water bottle, and a good attitude.

Our primary focus is on a style known as exhibition fencing, used to demonstrate to a crowd the techniques (sometimes adapted for modern safety) utilised by the historical fencing masters of old, many of whom engaged in or had students who engaged in real duels that could mean life or death.

At present we do not offer training in competitive HEMA fencing.

Renaissance Swordplay

Employing techniques with Rapiers, Sideswords, and Two-Handed Swords, we train to showcase safe combat from the masters of the Renaissance.

Enlightenment Smallsword

Especially popular in the French Royal Court around the time of Louis XIV, the Smallsword was a shorter and swifter descendant of the Renaissance Rapier.

Artistic Fencing

While our regular fencing styles are those of a martial art - we teach you the what and how, then you apply it in real combat against your opponents - Artistic Fencing is a choreographed style, allowing for scripted performances for those who always dreamed of performing plays with swordfighting on stage.

Group Classes

Classes are group-based, with a ranking hierarchy to allow students to steadily increase their skills and application over time, unlocking new techniques & concepts as they deepen their understanding of the Art.
